Where Starships Go To Die #1

Front Cover

An astronaut signs on with a rag tag crew to dive the depths and retrieve a crash starship from the depths of the ocean.

Now for me this synopsis ticked all the boxes. It sounded unique with deep water exploration and a diverse cast. Sadly though, once I got into the story it dropped an angle that turned me right off.

++SPOILER++ Once aboard the plan to retrieve the starship or to be more specific to steal the interstellar drive, we meet the crew. It’s then revealed that the leader of the project is a relative of Captain Nemo. Theres then a retrieval of a maguffin that leads into a Jules Verne angle and the reveal of a secret history.

This is when the story, for me went from interesting sci-fi to a non starter. I appreciate people like The League of Extraordinary Gentleman but it’s just not my bag. I was expecting some serious sci-fi.

I’m not saying this title won’t have a great story going forward. It just wasn’t for me. If I’d have known the “secret” history angle, then it wouldn’t have even touched my pull list.

If you liked league of extraordinary gentlemen and crossed it with the Abyss, maybe it’s for you.
